What if the space race were told from the other side of the Iron Curtain? That is the bet of Star City, the For All Mankind spin-off, and it is probably the smartest idea a derivative series has had in a long time. It keeps the mother show's alternate history, that timeline where the USSR won the race to the Moon, but flips the point of view entirely. This time we follow the Soviet cosmonauts, engineers and intelligence officers who risked everything in that race. Most spin-offs settle for recycling their source series with two characters swapped. Star City does the opposite, it inverts the perspective and turns yesterday's distant antagonists into today's complex heroes. Behind the Curtain we find sincere ideals, forced compromises, careers crushed by the system and dreams of space every bit as powerful as Houston's. Nobody holds a monopoly on sacrifice in this fictional Cold War. The 7.6 it holds in our ranking rewards that shift of gaze. For so-called realistic science fiction, alternate history becomes a two-way mirror here, and Western viewers catch themselves rooting for the people history books always presented as the losers. It is unsettling, and it is exactly what good fiction should produce. The show's presence in the trending charts of many countries proves this reframing speaks far beyond the American audience. People are watching fictional Russians conquer the Moon from Bogota, Warsaw and Seoul, each projecting their own history of camps and borders onto it. If you loved For All Mankind, run to it. If you never saw the mother series, this one stands entirely on its own, and that may be its finest achievement. That 7.6 is worth comparing with two other entries in these pages holding the same rating. The Invite holds it on just 58 votes, The Sheep Detectives too. Three titles, one identical score, judgment bases of wildly different weight — a useful reminder that a rating is only as good as the crowd behind it. The more interesting comparison lies elsewhere. Silo, another science fiction series adapted from a novel, reaches 8.2 across more than 2,000 votes, and our data shows literary adaptations consistently occupy the top of the scale while spin-offs from screen properties cluster lower. A spin-off reaching 7.6 therefore partly escapes that rule, probably because it does not invite direct comparison: shifting the point of view is not remaking.
